New York's Museum of Modern Art has scheduled Brancusi: The Artist and His Studio for October 25, 2026, to February 27, 2027. The exhibition, on the museum's sixth floor, examines sculptor Constantin Brancusi through his Paris studio. He lived and worked there for more than 40 years, from 1916 until his death in 1957.
The studio was also where Brancusi received visitors and arranged his sculptures. He repeatedly changed their positions rather than treating each work as separate from its surroundings. The exhibition brings together rarely lent sculptures, hand-carved furniture and bases, films, photographs, tools and archival material. Loans from Centre Pompidou's Atelier Brancusi in Paris join works from MoMA and important local loans.
The display includes three versions of Bird in Space and sculptures from The Kiss series. Studio tools include chisels, files, saws and callipers. Guest curator Anne Umland organised the exhibition with assistant curator Mia Matthias and curatorial assistant Samantha Small.
