South African startup Halo Sim Labs is preparing trials of its digital simulations for school learners at four rural primary schools in South Africa. Roughly 320 pupils in Grades 6 and 7 are expected to take part. The simulations let learners choose actions and encounter consequences in a simulated setting.
Thembelihle Zwane founded the company in January 2026. Its scenarios include peer pressure, bullying and substance use. The company aims to help learners develop empathy, manage emotions and make decisions, with a design intended to reflect African cultural and social settings. The company’s broader intended audience spans Grades 3 through 12.
Zwane wants the trials to assess pupil engagement, teachers’ experiences and improvements needed before expansion. The company has funded development itself and has yet to earn revenue. It plans distribution through school licences, institutional partnerships and subsidised access. Limited devices and unreliable connectivity remain constraints on development.
