Bento are ready-to-eat boxed meals sold for takeout, and a shop in Osaka offers one for 216 yen (about US$1.37), including tax. Reporter Seiji Nakazawa bought the chinjao rosu bento at Sandaime Kacchan and said its flavour exceeded his expectations for such an inexpensive meal.
The shop is in Kyobashi Chuo Shopping District, also known as Rib Street, roughly five minutes' walk north of the JR and Keihan Kyobashi stations. Nakazawa checked a menu outside before going in. He found the cheapest boxes on the left, with pricier choices arranged farther to the right.
His box contained rice, pork and green peppers, macaroni salad and pink pickled radish. He described it as small and visually plain beside the other meals, but found the pork-and-pepper dish sweet and savoury with a spicy edge. Other options included pork fillet cutlet, grilled fish and hamburger steak; he saw some customers pairing the cheapest box with the cutlet bento.
