Software Technology Parks of India and IIT BHU's Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship organised a technology conclave in Varanasi on artificial intelligence for healthcare and assistive technologies. Government representatives, academics, healthcare professionals and startups participated. Two panels covered healthcare inclusion and moving AI research into practical applications.
In his keynote address, electronics and information technology secretary S. Krishnan called for AI education across academic disciplines. He advocated combining medical science, technology and research to develop practical tools, identifying communities with limited healthcare access as potential beneficiaries. Applications discussed included disease screening, medical diagnostics, remote intensive-care monitoring and surgical planning.
STPI director general Arvind Kumar emphasised turning research into usable products, creating intellectual property and helping innovators reach markets. He also called for stronger startup networks beyond established technology centres. IIT BHU director Amit Patra said an institutional framework could help students, faculty and other aspiring innovators develop viable startups.
