Commuters ask where George is, says customer-service adviser Matthew Cartwright. The ginger cat at Stourbridge Junction in the West Midlands has a routine that Ian Tomlinson describes as naps in the ticket office and “guarding” the platforms. A passenger says George also watches the world go by, sometimes hiding as he tries to catch mice or birds.
Now his biography is reaching readers abroad. Simone Carter says people in Thailand, Japan, Australia and America have sent photographs of their cats sitting on the book or having it read to them. George began visiting the station in 2017. Tomlinson adopted him by arrangement before his previous owner moved to Spain.
His name is on a Class 139 shuttle train, named for him in 2025. Staff and passengers have described the pleasure of seeing him. Retirement with Tomlinson has been discussed, although no date has been confirmed.
