Accessories designer Nori Enomoto says bent sewing pins inspired the curved outlines of her bags. At college, she kept them on her sewing machine until the annual hari-kuyo ceremony, when she submitted them for disposal. This Japanese memorial observance honours worn-out or broken sewing needles.
Enomoto established her label in 2020 while working as a patternmaker at Rainbow Shake. Its pouches, purses and handbags have irregular curved outlines, with several models named after French weekdays. For her Paris Special Twinkle Wave pieces, she uses vintage buttons, beads and trimmings collected at Paris flea markets; some date to the 1930s and 1940s.
She makes that collection by hand and sells small quantities online. The label has taken part in Japanese pop-ups and appeared in Paris, Copenhagen, Seoul and Taipei. Enomoto identifies a practical challenge behind the designs: maintaining consistent manufacturing when a successful handmade piece needs to be reproduced.
