Nala, a terrier cross living in Gloucestershire, England, now climbs onto family members’ laps to sleep and asks to be picked up for cuddles. An October 14 update describes a dog who enjoys strokes and tickles, gives affectionate licks and likes to stay close to Sarah and her family.
That ease developed gradually. Nala had spent 400 days at an animal centre in Newport, Wales, before joining the household. The family first considered her during the previous October’s adoption campaign, after their daughter spotted her online. The couple, and later the whole family, visited repeatedly over several weeks. Nala also tried visits to their house, staying permanently on the third.
At first she was anxious. Her family kept the house quiet, limited unfamiliar experiences and let her move at her own pace. As she became comfortable, she started seeking affection. Sarah now describes Nala as mischievous, funny and increasingly confident with familiar people.
