Namibia has cut its forecast for economic growth in 2026 to 2.3% from 3.1%, reflecting weaker performance than expected in the first half of the year. Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah presented the revised outlook in a mid-year budget review to the National Assembly on October 22, according to the finance ministry.
The ministry projected growth of 2.6% in 2027, 3.0% in 2028 and 3.3% in 2029. It cited mining projects, firm uranium and gold prices, and improving consumer spending as possible supports for the economy. These projections depend on future conditions. Shafudah identified muted global demand and weaker diamond prices among the risks facing the outlook.
Other risks included high fuel prices, anticipated El Niño conditions and foot-and-mouth disease. The government kept its fiscal deficit projection at 5.5% of gross domestic product. However, the projected public debt ratio rose to 68.7% of GDP, compared with 65.2% in the budget presented in February, the finance ministry said.
