A pet cat that went missing at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates has been reunited with his owner in Sri Lanka after a 10-day search. Owner Avishka Kaumadi described the reunion in an interview reported on October 22. The ginger cat, Chuuti, escaped from his carrier before their October 11 trip from Dubai to Sri Lanka.
Chuuti was due to travel as air cargo. Kaumadi initially searched the cargo area with a staff member for over an hour and waited approximately 28 hours at the airport. After she reached Sri Lanka, airport staff kept looking and put out food while she waited for news. Animal-rescue platforms in the UAE shared appeals.
Kaumadi said Chuuti responded when she spoke to him at their reunion. He had lost weight, and she was taking him for a veterinary check-up. She thanked airport officers, rescue communities, SriLankan Airlines and airport services company dnata. Details of where and how he was found had not been confirmed.
