Atty, a young Linne’s two-toed sloth at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland, United Kingdom, ate floral treats with its mother Fe on 20 October. Keepers prepared the special snacks for World Sloth Day, according to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the wildlife conservation charity that operates the zoo. Atty’s father Nico slept during the occasion.
Born in May 2026, Atty was the first sloth born in Scotland, the zoo says. Atty was named in honour of naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, who turned 100 that same month. Atty, Fe and Nico live together in the zoo’s Sloth House, where their enclosure is kept warm and humid.
Sloths are native to Central and South America, where they live in trees. World Sloth Day takes place every year on 20 October. The occasion raises awareness of threats to sloths and the protection of their natural habitats.
