Japanese automaker Toyota plans to begin producing an updated Lexus NX compact crossover in Canada in December 2026. The vehicle will be offered only as a hybrid and made in Cambridge, Ontario.
Scott MacKenzie, director of corporate affairs at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, said Toyota remained committed to manufacturing vehicles in Canada over the long term and would continue investing in its Canadian operations. He said the company's Canadian factories were running two full shifts with regular overtime. The Cambridge factory complex, which is 38 years old, also makes the Toyota RAV4 crossover and Lexus RX SUV.
Toyota has another factory in Ontario that makes the RAV4. Together, the two Ontario plants produced 537,518 vehicles in 2025, making Toyota Canada's largest vehicle manufacturer by production that year. Canadian production of the latest RAV4 began in January 2026. About 85% of the vehicles produced at its Canadian factories are exported, mainly to the United States.
