Japanese painters Yu Nishimura and Daisuke Fukunaga are the subjects of separate solo exhibitions in Paris, France, this autumn. Nishimura’s Towards a Sea is scheduled to open at Lafayette Anticipations on October 21 and run until January 3, 2027. Fukunaga’s Waiting as Time Shifts is already on view at Crèvecœur, where it continues through November 28.
Lafayette Anticipations describes its show as Nishimura’s first institutional solo exhibition in France. Admission is free. About 50 works, ranging from drawings to large paintings, span the past 10 years, including pieces made for the exhibition. His images depict people, animals, plants and the sea, using blurred forms and overlapping layers, with influences including street photography and anime.
Fukunaga’s first solo exhibition with Crèvecœur focuses on work and pauses for rest. One painting shows sleeping workers with their helmet lights still on. He works mainly from memory and sketches, favouring large canvases.
