South African startup Halo Sim Labs develops digital simulations for school learners. Founded by Thembelihle Zwane in January 2026, the company creates scenarios involving peer pressure, bullying and substance use. Learners choose actions and encounter simulated consequences. The company intends these experiences to support empathy, managing emotions and making decisions, with a design reflecting African cultural and social settings.
The company is preparing trials at four rural South African primary schools, involving roughly 320 pupils in Grades 6 and 7. Zwane wants to assess pupil engagement and teachers’ experiences, and identify improvements needed before expansion. The broader intended age range extends from Grades 3 through 12; the planned trials cover only part of that range.
Halo Sim Labs has funded development itself and has not begun earning revenue. Its planned distribution combines school licences, institutional partnerships and subsidised access. Limited devices and unreliable connectivity are constraints on development.
