A shop selling secondhand kimono, traditional Japanese robes, by weight opened in Tokyo’s Yanaka Ginza on August 23, 2026. Called 1 Yen Kimono Wargo, it is the brand’s first permanent shop in the Tokyo area. The brand already had shops in Kyoto and Kanazawa and had previously held temporary shops, or pop-ups, in Tokyo.
The base price is 1 yen per gram, with other rates of 0.5, 3 and 5 yen per gram. Some kimono marked with colored tags cost 490 yen. Kimono can feature silk, embroidery and painted designs. Types include furisode, which have decorated long sleeves, and komon and summer yukata, which suit informal occasions.
The clothing has its own vocabulary: obi are sashes, while obijime are cords. Haori are jackets, and geta and zori are types of sandals. Shoppers can try kimono on over their clothes, although the shop has no fitting rooms. It opens daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
