Larry, the 19-year-old cat at 10 Downing Street, is home and roaming the building again after a minor operation to remove a cyst. A Downing Street source reported Larry's return on October 9. The Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office is a familiar presence around the London residence, settling on its doorstep or a windowsill.
Larry's appearances also extend to photographs of political leaders. Photographer Justin Ng, who has photographed Larry for more than 10 years, described in February how the cat poses and tries to steal the spotlight during pictures of visiting leaders. The doorway gives Larry a place in the scene as well as somewhere to lie down.
Larry arrived at Downing Street in 2011 after rodents repeatedly appeared behind television reporters outside the residence. Larry had been a stray in Wandsworth before Battersea Dogs and Cats Home took him in. From that background, Larry became the household's official mouser and a recurring figure in photographs.
